Endorsement: Mushro-Rumchak for Democrats as Will County clerk
Longtime Republican Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots is retiring this year and that drew two Democrats to battle it out for their party's nomination for the open seat.
Lauren Staley-Ferry, a Will County board member from Joliet, is facing Denise Mushro-Rumchak, the Lockport Township clerk.
Staley-Ferry declined to be interviewed for an endorsement, saying it conflicted with her county board duties. However, she also never followed-up when offered other times to discuss her candidacy.
It likely wouldn't have mattered. Mushro-Rumchak is clearly the most qualified candidate in the race. After being deputy clerk in Lockport Township for 18 years, she was appointed clerk in 2014 and won election in 2017. She is committed to the duties of clerk and specifically of making sure elections are run properly in Will County. She earns the endorsement in the primary for the right to run against Republican Laurie McPhillips, a former county recorder of deeds and county board member.
