Benefit concert March 10 at Vineyard Church
A fundraiser for Love Elgin Day will showcase the talents of tenor Jeorge Holmes, who founded this one-day free outreach event to low-income families and individuals in 2012.
The concert will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Vineyard Church of Elgin, 220 Division St.
Holmes has performed at concert and restaurant venues across the Fox Valley area and has sung with the Elgin Opera. The program at the benefit concert will run from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley and from opera to Christian music.
An all-volunteer, donation-based ministry, Love Elgin Day offers free food, clothing, medical and legal services, car and bike repair, and other amenities to struggling families.
Volunteers from dozens of churches and many denominations work together to bring Love Elgin Day to the community, serving as many as 2,000 people at each event.
The upcoming outreach on June 9 will be the 12th Love Elgin Day to date. Distribution sites will be set up in six different neighborhoods.
Admission to the fundraiser is free, but an offering will be taken in support of Love Elgin Day, and a silent auction will be held.
On Sunday, March 4, at Vineyard, the Rev. Tom Severson will be speaking on "The Gospel and God's Commands," based on Paul's letter to the Galatians. The teaching will focus on the relationship between God's law and God's gospel-rather than contradicting each other, the law actually points us to the gospel, and vice versa.
Services begin at 9 and 11 a.m., with coffee at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
