Lake County jail officer charged with battery
A Lake County jail corrections officer has been charged with battery after he inappropriately touched a female contract employee who also worked at the jail, the Lake County sheriff's office said.
Darin Chansky, 49, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, turned himself in Monday shortly after a judge set a $20,000 warrant for his arrest. Chansky, a 22-year sheriff's office employee, appeared in bond court with a lawyer and was released on his signature.
A female Aramark Food Service employee who also works inside the jail said Chansky touched her buttocks in the presence of inmates last month.
Chansky was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay, the sheriff's office said.
Sheriff Mark Curran said that during the criminal investigation, officials interviewed the inmates and witnesses, as well as Chansky and the victim.
Chansky will remain on leave with pay until the conclusion of the administrative investigation.
The Aramark employee also said Chansky made an inappropriate sexual gesture toward her in the presence of inmates in December.
Chansky is due back in court March 5.
