Hopeful signs from our young people

I am very proud of the young people from Parkland, Florida, and the other schools around the country that have spoken out about taking gun control measures that will bring a sense of safety to schools and other public places. These young people have done more to move us to a conversation about gun safety than years of adults' efforts.

I congratulate their courage and their convictions not to back down when lesser people challenge motives and send ridicules.

But - a warning - look carefully at what may be offered by our politicians, i.e., adding more guns in schools (with teachers). This creates a sense of an armed camp. Hunting is an enjoyable sport but these military style guns seem to be used to hunt people.

With you leading our nation we can go to a place where safety is a daily blessing. To a place where there is no need to "protect ourselves with guns" because weapons of "mass destruction" are not walking on the streets. Are we seeing and hearing from the next Greatest Generation?
