'Yarnstorm' kicks off Fine Arts Month in Libertyville

Trees in downtown Libertyville were wrapped with a rainbow of colored yarn Saturday as part of the first "Coloring Day" event.

More than 100 stitchers have been working for months to produced brightly colored knitted and crocheted squares to adorn trees as part of a collaborative community art project.

The "Yarnstorm" is meant to shake off the winter gray and mark the beginning of Libertyville Fine Arts Month in March. Knitting and crocheting groups have worked through the winter to produce the materials for the decorations, which will remain up through March.

Fine Arts Month features public exhibitions of student art at local businesses, a pop-up gallery of student art, a series of concerts and performances by young people and other activities.
