Esteban Loaiza's agent says he was saddened by the news of the arrest of the former All-Star pitcher on suspicion of trafficking drugs after packages containing a white powder believed to be cocaine were found at a home he rented in Southern California.

John Boggs told The San Francisco Chronicle on Monday that he had no information about Friday's arrest and that he has not spoken to Loaiza recently.

He said his office received a call from Loaiza last week but Boggs was unavailable.

Boggs says he was "shocked and saddened" and "had no indication he would ever be in this type of situation."

Loaiza was being held Monday for lack of $200,000 bail pending a court appearance in San Diego on Wednesday. He could not be reached for comment.
