Crash that killed Barrington High student remains under investigation
South Barrington police and accident reconstructionists continue to investigate a weekend crash that killed a Barrington High School freshman, authorities said Tuesday.
Cassandra Meadors, 14, of Barrington, died Sunday from multiple injuries suffered in the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Her death was ruled accidental by the medical examiner.
Police said Cassandra was a passenger in a 2009 Volvo S60 traveling north on Route 59 about 3:10 p.m. Sunday when its driver, 27-year-old Dana Cibulka of Chicago, lost control and crossed into the southbound lane north of Penny Road.
Police Chief Thomas Roman said Cibulka was looking after Cassandra, but it's not yet known where they were heading.
Police said the passenger side of the Volvo was struck by a 2006 BMW X5 driven by Carol Saldek, 56, of Crystal Lake.
The Volvo's speed and other factors are not yet known.
"The crash team is still deep in their investigation," Roman said Tuesday.
South Barrington police are collaborating on the investigation with the regional Major Case Assistance Team's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
Cassandra and the two women in the collision were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates by the Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District, with the assistance of the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District. Cassandra was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m.
Neither Roman nor St. Alexius officials were able to provide condition updates on the others injured.
