Ex-Illinois park district head seeks to withdraw fraud plea
URBANA, Ill. (AP) - A former Illinois park district director who pleaded guilty to misusing funds from the district and a related foundation is seeking to withdraw his plea.
Roy Collins of Kankakee pleaded guilty last year to mail fraud and wire fraud. He was scheduled for sentencing this week in federal court in Urbana, but The (Kanakee) Daily Journal reports his lawyer asked for time to file a motion to withdraw the plea.
A judge plans to hear arguments about the motion April 23.
Collins was executive director of the Kankakee Valley Park District from 2011 to 2016. He was also treasurer of the not-for-profit Kankakee Valley Park Foundation.
Prosecutors say he used a $3,000 foundation check to buy a pond liner for his property and used district equipment to maintain the pond.
