Explore optical illusions of colored gems

Visitors can explore the remarkable optical illusions of colored gems during an hourlong program at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst.

Sakina Bharani, gemologist and museum docent, will discuss the different light effects in gems that create beautiful and rare phenomena such as stars, cat's eyes, adularescence, aventurescence and more.

After the lecture, participants can join a guided tour of the Smithsonian Gems exhibit at the museum.

Reservations are recommended and the cost of the program is included in regular museum admission of $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for teens and students.
