Judson students return to the Chicago Auto Show

As many as 15 students from Judson University will complete internships during the 2018 Chicago Auto Show that will be held at McCormick Place in Chicago. The students will work Feb. 5-19, but the show will be open to the public Feb. 10-19.

"This is our second year of Judson University students working at the Chicago Auto Show," said Joyce Shotick, an associate business professor at Judson and coordinator of the CAS internship. "We have three returning students who will provide guidance and support to our new interns this year. We are very excited to partner with the Chicago Auto Show to provide them with excellent customer service and for our students to gain firsthand knowledge of the depth of planning to implement an event of this magnitude."

Fourteen of the students are business majors and one is an exercise and sport science major. To participate in the internship, Judson students submitted an application and were interviewed by two faculty members. The students' enthusiasm, willingness to serve and "interest in learning how major events are coordinated," Shotick said, were all determining factors.

During the internship, students will have multiple duties. Some will assist media reporters with credentials and directions during Media Preview Days and handle errands for CAS staff. Others will participate in the execution of the First Look for Charity event and help to promote new car models and concepts via social media throughout the show.

Judson's 2018 CAS student interns include: Andrew Allen of Milford, Ill.; Stephanie Bajmakovich of Bartlett; Jesse Corley of Antioch; Cassidy DeWitt of Marinette, Wis.; Mason Elliott of St. Charles; Jason Galik of Downers Grove; Daniel Garcia of DeKalb.; Julia Gasparic (a team leader) of Elgin; Lacey Heaver (a team leader) of Woodstock; Matt Jernee of Absecon, N.J.; Clara McDowell (a team leader) of Elgin; Hannah McDowell of Europa, Miss.; Maria Meecham of Winfield; Mabrianne Pryer of North Aurora; and Ryan Young of Bradford, Ill.

Not only will these students get to attend and participate in the behind-the-scenes activities of the largest car show in the nation, they will also receive a one-hour credit for their 40 hours of service, stretched over a 15-day period.

Judson University is one of three higher-education institutions that will assist with the operations of the car show this year. Others include Bradley University and Loyola University.
