Ready to rescue? Naperville man creates app to connect families with animal rescues

One Naperville resident not only supports Naperville's new pet protection ordinance but wants to give families an easier way to adopt a rescue.

Mark Wade, a 20-year resident, developed the WeRescue app which connects users with pets that need rescuing from local shelters after his own personal experience at a pet store.

Years ago when Wade was looking for a dog he went to his local pet store where he purchased a dog that he was told was bred on a family farm. Later he was devastated to learn it came from a puppy mill. This mistake led to Wade's inspiration for WeRescue and his mission to prevent others from following in his footsteps.

As Naperville considers a new pet protection ordinance that would ban pet shops from selling anything other than cats and dogs obtained from animal shelters or rescue organizations, Wade wants to inform residents there is an easier way to adopt an animal.

WeRescue is a mobile phone app that helps people find the love of their lives at a nearby pet shelter. WeRescue has more than 200,000 pets available for adoption at shelters throughout the United States and Canada. Users are able to browse through thousands of pets, sorted by distance from their location and are able to narrow their search with more than 70 filters.

WeRescue also offers users the ability to find the exact pet they are seeking from mixed breeds and puppies to trained dogs and ones that are good with kids. WeRescue provides a variety of photos, detailed information about the animal and contact information for the shelter.

WeRescue is available for download in the App Store or on Google Play.
