Apply now for AAUW Elgin Area Branch scholarship

The Elgin Area Branch of the American Association of University Women will award a $1,000 scholarship to a woman planning to attend college within a 50-mile radius of Elgin.

Applicants for the Betty Medearis Memorial Scholarship must be 19 years old and have successfully completed at least 12 semester hours (or equivalent) college credit.

The recipient will be granted a student-affiliate membership in the Elgin Area Branch of AAUW and will be invited to attend branch meetings and activities. It is hoped that the recipient will attend AAUW's May dinner meeting at which time the scholarship will be awarded.

All applications must be postmarked by Sunday, April 1.

In addition to the application, the student should: include a list of all community activities and the years of involvement; discuss educational and professional goals; describe significant work experiences; and discuss any need for financial assistance. Include any financial scholarships or grants you have received or will receive for the 2018-2019 academic year.

The applicant also must give a personal reflection on the AAUW mission statement: "AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive social change."
