St. Viator gets second victory over Wheeling
St. Viator's girls basketball team earned its second win of the season over Wheeling on Saturday when the Lions prevailed 35-27 in Saturday's nonconference game on the Wildcats' floor.
Viator also topped Wheeling 41-35 in its own Blenner Classic in December.
St. Viator has now played seven games against Mid-Suburban League teams and stands at 6-1, its only loss to Hersey 50-40 at the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase at Lake Zurich.
Leading the way for the Lions (18-6) against the Wildcats (12-12) were seniors Myia Clark (5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Olivia Solimene (3 assists, 2 steals), who both scored 11 points.
Glenbrook South 48, Hersey 32: This nonconference matinee at the Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights featured Illinois Basketball Coaches Association hall of fame coach Steve Weissenstein of Glenbrook South against Hersey's soon-to-be IBCA hall of fame coach Mary Fendley, who will be inducted on May 5 in Normal.
The Huskies led 9-8 after one quarter but South (18-6) pulled ahead 20-14 at half. The Titans clinched it by outscoring Hersey 13-2 in the final quarter.
Seniors Maesyn Benjamin (one 3-pointer) and Claire Rogowski led Hersey (12-12) with 8 points apiece while classmate Katie McGrath chipped in 7.
