Des Plaines home catches fire

Fire caused extensive damage to a home in Des Plaines early Friday afternoon.
Des Plaines firefighters, however, said residents and firefighters escaped injury.
The fire on the 500 block of Westmere Road was called in shortly after noon. Firefighters arriving on the scene spotted a heavy column of fire rolling up the tri-level structure.
