Jurors find man guilty in Cook County investigator's death

MAYWOOD, Ill. (AP) - Cook County jurors have convicted a man for the 2013 shooting death of a Cook County sheriff's investigator in suburban Chicago.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Brandon Jackson was found guilty Tuesday in the death of 50-year-old Cuauhtemoc Estrada. Jurors returned with a verdict in less than six hours.

Prosecutors say Estrada was fatally shot in a Bellwood parking lot while trying to protect his daughter and her boyfriend from two masked robbers who included Jackson. Jackson's attorney, Valerie Panozzo, told the jury prosecutors didn't prove their case and video and photo evidence was blurry and unreliable.

Another man, 26-year-old Gage Thornton, pleaded guilty in August 2016 to murder. Thornton is to be sentenced Feb. 22. Jackson has pre-sentencing hearing scheduled Feb. 21.
