Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora closes due to flu outbreak

Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora is closed this week because of a flu outbreak.

School facilities will be closed until Sunday as workers disinfect and clean the facilities, officials said. The school decided to close based on information from the Kane County Health Department and a recommendation from Rush-Copley Medical Center.

"The purpose of closing the school is to decrease contact among students in order to lessen their risk of getting sick and to limit the spread of infection," officials said in a news release.

The campus closed at 5 p.m. Monday. All students must leave the campus by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The school is providing a bus Tuesday to drop students off in Bloomington, Springfield and Fairview Heights.

Residence halls will reopen at 3 p.m. Sunday. Classes will resume Jan. 29.
