Getting to know the DuPage County Board

I've lived in DuPage County for almost 30 years, but I recently realized I don't know much at all about the DuPage County Board. What does it do? Who are our representatives? What are their leanings and connections?

To be prepared for the upcoming primary election on March 20, I would urge folks to do what I did - visit the website, dupageco.org, and find the pdf titled "About DuPage Government" Resource Guide. It includes information on township and local governments, too.

You can learn which of the six county board districts you live in. then you should be sure to look at page 31, where you will see the names of the board members of all the districts and their party affiliations.

I'm guessing many people will be as shocked as I was to learn that only one of the 18 board members is a Democrat.

I also learned, from talking with a representative, that one person alone cannot bring items to the board for a vote. In a county where the Democratic margin of victory in 2016 was more than 14 points, why are we represented 94 percent by Republicans? Something to think about and to vote about.
