Kaneland's Weber earns MVP selection
Kaneland senior Jenni Weber has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent high school girls basketball performances.
Jenni Weber, Kaneland: The Knights added two more victories to their 11-game winning streak last week, and this senior sharpshooter stood out in both games. Weber, who reached 1,000 career points earlier this season, led Kaneland with 19 points and 8 rebounds in a 50-25 win over DeKalb, then drained four 3-pointers and scored 27 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists in a 60-39 win over Morris.
Cameron Kruse, Glenbard West: The senior guard scored 20 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in a nonconference win against St. Charles North. Kruse followed that with 24 points and 4 assists in an important West Suburban Silver victory over Lyons Twp. She hit five 3-pointers in each game.
Sydney Rzepka, Palatine: The Pirates won three of four games during the week in which Rzepka played a major role. The senior forward helped the MSL West co-leaders go 3-1 as she scored 43 points and grabbed 26 rebounds in those games along with stellar defense. In a 46-34 win at Elk Grove, she had 11 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists.
Maddie Spaulding, Libertyville: The 5-foot-11 junior forward flirted with a double-double in back-to-back games, both of which resulted in wins for the Wildcats. She scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed 9 rebound in a 49-40 victory over Lake Zurich. She followed up with a 9-point, 12-rebound effort as the Wildcats beat Zion-Benton 45-29.
