Signal Hill Chapter NSDAR has charitable year of giving

Members of the Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, of Barrington recently completed its 2017 charitable year of giving to local area recipients.

Over the course of the year, Signal Hill distributed more than $15,000 to other 501 (c) (3) organizations whose missions support DAR's mission of education, historic preservation, patriotism, conservation and Native American issues.

Some of these funds were private directed donations, while others were the result of fundraising activities. The chapter members also donate their time to various volunteer activities, totaling nearly 6,000 hours in service to the community.

This year's recipients included three local libraries to assist in funding an educational program, Elgin's Nancy Kimball Cobblestone House restoration, Harper Community College's "Promise" Program, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, The USO and Lake County Honor Flight, to name just a few.

Signal Hill Chapter has increased its national and community giving in the past six years by 400 percent, with steady increases each year thanks to member generosity and successful fundraising.

In 2016, the chapter was recognized as the number one chapter in the state for overall achievement.

Signal Hill, founded in 1972, is dedicated to preserving history, promoting patriotism, conservation and historic awareness in our community, and securing America's future through better education for children.

Membership is established through approval of documentation of direct lineage from an American Revolutionary War Patriot.
