Join Elgin Knights' 20th annual Chili for Charity Cook-off

The Elgin Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Henry Schryer Council 654 will be hosting their annual Chili for Charity Cook-Off and Dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in St. Thomas More School gym, 1625 W. Highland Ave., Elgin.

This is the biggest fundraiser that the Knights host.

Tickets are $7 or $8 at the door. For tickets, contact Chris Gulik at (847) 931-9641 or chrisgulik@sbcglobal.net.

Event proceeds will benefit all Elgin Catholic schools, Elgin Soup Kitchen and Elgin area youth sports.

Participant fees are $20 or free for students. To enter, fill out the form at www.kofc654.org/chili.

The prizes for overall best chili are $400 for first prize, $250 for second, and $100 for third.

Prizes for best overall presentation are $90 for first place and $60 for second.

Student contestants can win a prize of $50 cash and a traveling trophy. The prize for "Best in Class" for hot, medium and mild are $50 for each category.

Participants must provide 6 to 8 quarts of chili. Doors open at 11 a.m. and judging begins promptly at 1 p.m.

Those interested in donating a raffle prize or sponsoring an ad in the "chili book." For sponsorships, contact Chris Gulik at (847) 931-9641 or chrisgulik@sbcglobal.net. Deadline for ads is Feb. 12.

The Monsignor Henry Schryer Council works closely with four parishes in Elgin - St. Thomas More, St. Laurence, St. Mary, and St. Joseph - providing funds for various projects in each of these parishes and the community. Council members are active participants in their parish.

The Knights meet at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 10 Villa Court in Elgin.
