Baqai joins staff at Amita Heart and Vascular Institute

Amita Heart and Vascular Institute in Elk Grove Village announced Atif Baqai, M.D. has joined its vascular service team.

Dr. Baqai began his medical education attending the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago, then moved to the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida where he completed his residency and training.

His clinical practice specializes in both endovascular (minimally invasive) and open surgical treatment of vascular disease. Dr. Baqai refers to his patients as partners in the treatment process and believes "the key to success is helping my patients build an understanding of their disease process and taking an active role in forming their treatment plans."

"My goal is to help raise awareness in the community and focus on prevention and screening of vascular disease," Dr. Baqai added, citing Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) as an example. Currently, in the United States, 1 in 5 people over the age of 65 is diagnosed with PAD a year. PAD occurs when there is a buildup of cholesterol and plaque in the leg arteries, causing decreased blood flow to the legs and feet and leading to pain and discomfort.

Dr. Baqai is currently seeing patients in Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates and Hinsdale. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (847) 981-3680 or visit www.amitahealth.org/services/heart-institute
