Opening-round setbacks for Wauconda, Round Lake at Marengo

Rochelle 65, Wauconda 53: At Marengo, the Bulldogs spotted the Hubs a 22-12 lead after one quarter and dropped their opening game in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament.

Nick Rinchiuso led Wauconda (2-8) with a season-high 16 points, while freshman Nick Bulgarelli and sophomore Donovan Carter added nine each. Rinchiuso and Bulgarelli each hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Wauconda played without junior guard and leading scorer Connor Brannick (13.4 ppg), who was out of town with family.

The Bulldogs resume the tourney Wednesday with a 10:30 a.m. tipoff against North Boone.

Marengo 65, Round Lake 41: At Marengo, the Panthers lost their opening game in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament.

Lucas Hollingsworth had 14 points to lead Round Lake (0-10), which resumes the tournament at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday against Elgin.
