Cuba Township man arrested in November fatal car crash
Lake County sheriff's deputies have arrested a Cuba Township man who they say was responsible for a car crash last month that killed an Arizona woman.
Kenneth K. Malanowski, 41, of the 28600 block of West Roberts Road, faces several charges: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving death; aggravated driving under the influence; and two counts of driving under the influence.
The arrest stems from a crash in Antioch Township during the early morning hours of Nov. 26.
Police say Malanowski was driving north on Route 59 near Grass Lake Road in a 2007 Volvo when he rear-ended Stephanie Dokken, 26, of Youngtown, Arizona. Both vehicles left the road and hit trees.
Dokken was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy showed she died due to multiple traumatic injuries.
Malanowski fled the scene, officials said, and officers used a police dog unit to track him down at his nearby residence. He was arrested late Thursday after police received the results of a toxicology screening.
Malanowski remains in the Lake County jail on $500,000 bail. He is next due in court Dec. 28.
