Apply now for Elgin Kiwanis grants to help children

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin is pleased to again have funds available for organizations that serve children in the Elgin area. Available funds are intended for specific projects, rather than for administrative, individual or general operating expenses. The committee will determine the number of awards and amounts based on projects submitted.

Projects should: demonstrate an impact on serving the basic needs of children: food, clothing, shelter, medicine and educational needs; provide tangible, long-lasting benefit; and provide visibility for the Kiwanis Club of Elgin.

Requests for consideration should be submitted as an email attachment in a maximum of five pages. You must include the following information:

• A statement of need;

• Description of the proposed project, clearly stating what the project will achieve;

• Statement addressing who and how many will benefit from the project;

• Statement describing the geographical service area for the project;

• Statement of the requested amount and outline of the costs of implementation. Please describe any additional funds that have been identified to implement the project/program.

• Description of how the success of the project will be measured;

• Description of how the Kiwanis donation will be recognized.

Previously funded programs should include a one-page final report.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a potential service project/volunteer opportunity where Kiwanis members could support your organization. This could be a one-day project or an ongoing service opportunity. Please include the name and phone number of a contact person in case of questions.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12. Notifications will be made in early February.

Check distribution will take place at a club meeting in February. Grant winners are invited to attend the meeting. Funded programs will be invited to present at a club meeting in the coming year. Meetings are held at noon Tuesdays at the Grumpy Goat Tavern in Elgin.
