Libertyville students build gingerbread houses

What's a Christmas celebration without a gingerbread house?

Around 50 parent and grandparent volunteers gathered in the Butterfield School commons room in Libertyville Thursday to help with the seasonal project.

Eighty students in the four first grade classes built their own gingerbread house using milk cartons, a lot of frosting and a generous selection of candy. Thursday was also pajama day, with students and teachers taking advantage of the opportunity to sport their best holiday-themed PJs.

The annual building event follows a learning unit on gingerbread, which included math, stories and STEM activities.
