Some needy are more deserving than prisoners

There was recently an article in the Daily Herald about one of the local megachurches preparing and delivering over 70,000 Christmas Prison Packs to prisoners in Illinois and Louisiana. While I applaud their kind hearts and willingness to help others in this Christmas season, I can't help but wonder whether their efforts are misguided. I believe there are, certainly, more deserving, unfortunate souls than convicted felons. These prisoners made choices in life that put them where they are. These inmates are fed daily, have medical care and a dry, warm place to sleep this Christmas season.

Unfortunately. this is not true of all of our society. Think of the homeless, disabled veterans, the indigent, hospital patients, military service personnel and, especially, sick children. I believe these people are much more deserving of the Christmas packs, as many of them are in situations not of their doing. I would hope, in the future, this megachurch will instead consider helping the groups of people I have cited.
