Celebrate winter solstice with Lake County Forest Preserve

The Lake County Forest Preserve District is hosting an event to celebrate the first day of winter and shortest daylight of the year, from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, at Hastings Lake Forest Preserve, 21155 Gelden Road, Lake Villa.

Two 30- to 45-minute night hikes will be offered. Visitors also can drink cocoa around a fire in the heated pavilion and make a bird feeder while learning how animals adapt to winter weather.
