New I-90/Route 25 park-n-ride ready

Pace debuted a new park-n-ride station at the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) and Route 25 in Elgin Monday intended to reduce traffic by encouraging drivers to hop on the bus.

The station is the second of three park-n-rides along the I-90 corridor and will be served by Pace routes 603, 605 and 607. One facility at I-90 and Randall Road is operating already, while a third at I-90 and Barrington Road will open this spring. Pace collaborated with the Illinois tollway on the project and is running a series of improved or new express buses that divert to the inside shoulder, or "Flex Lane," of the Jane Addams when traffic is congested.

The parking lot is free and offers 199 spaces.

New Pace express buses include: Route 603 between the Elgin Transportation Center and Rosemont CTA station; Route 605 between the Randall Road park-n-ride and ETC; and Route 607 between Randall Road and the Schaumburg Transportation Center.

The I-90 corridor accommodates about 13 percent of the region's work trips, and planners hope better transit options will increase employment opportunities.

Pace pioneered a Bus-on-Shoulder express service on I-55 in 2011 and attracted new riders while improving the on-time performance from 65 percent to 92 percent, planners said.
