Fremd student council makes donation to local counseling service

Members of the William Fremd High School Student Council donated $2,700 to The Bridge Youth and Family Counseling Service of Palatine Monday, Dec. 11.

The student council has a long-standing tradition of planning events throughout homecoming early in the school year as a way to raise funds for the donation. This year the student council chose The Bridge due to its service in providing counseling for area youth, including students attending Fremd High School.

"We had a lot of fun planning activities for homecoming week because we were very committed to helping The Bridge," said Ashley Soriano, student council adviser.

"I also believe so many staff members were willing to go into the teacher dunk tank because they were passionate about helping."

Student council president John McDonnell also believes the choice to donate to The Bridge inspired people's participation this year.

"Many of our students benefit from their services," he said. "I think that's why so many people were excited to get involved during homecoming week."

Gregg Stockey, executive director of The Bridge Youth and Family Services, said the donation from Fremd would benefit those who need the agency's services.

"We are grateful to be recipients of the homecoming fundraising effort," he said. "All donations support services provided, regardless of one's ability to pay"

Stockey added donations like those from Fremd are crucial in aiding The Bridge's mission.

"Maintaining a comprehensive approach to services requires support from the local community and compassionate groups like those at Fremd High School," he said.
