Acoustical engineer talks with Hale GEMS Club

Third- and fourth-grade students in the Girls in Engineering, Math and Science Club at Hale will be working together on an acoustical engineering challenge, and on Dec. 14 they heard from an expert in the field. An acoustical engineer talked with the club about sound, acoustics, various careers available in the field, and her work as a noise control engineer. Club members participated in a hands-on demonstration about how sound travels, met DB Cooper, the engineer's "listening mannequin," and handled different sound-dampening materials. That day the engineer also talked with the first- and second-grade classes, who have been studying sound waves in science.
