NCH Wellness Center open while renovation underway

While the work on Northwest Community Healthcare Wellness Center's $1 million renovation project is underway, members won't have to stop working out. The center will remain open while more than 100 new pieces of equipment arrive, and 50 percent more space is added.

"We're doing this project to go from being a good to great medical fitness center to best serve our current and future members," said Steve Balaton, Wellness Center director. "Our goal has been and always will be to improve our community's health."

Renovations began on Oct. 30, and will continue through January. Once completed, the center will have an additional 5,000 square feet of functional training area that will enable fitness trainers to teach the latest group strength training classes for all ages. This area will also be available for individual use. The plan will add 93 additional spaces in the Wellness Center parking lot, and despite all the new offerings, membership dues will not be increasing.

Phase 1 of the project will take place through mid-December when a new cardio area takes the place of a basketball court. Phase 2, to be completed the last two weeks of December, includes plans to create a functional training area, and Phase 3 of the plan will provide updates in the strength area. A grand reopening is planned for the latter part of January.
