Libertyville celebrates a Dickens of a Holiday Dec. 2 and 9
One of MainStreet Libertyville's most anticipated events, Dickens of a Holiday, will take place over two Saturdays, Dec. 2 and 9. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make time in their busy schedule to appear in Libertyville's Cook Park with the backdrop of the Ansel B. Cook Mansion and Holiday Tree. Santa will hear children's wishes from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. each Saturday, and the volunteer MainStreet photographer will be on hand to take a nostalgic picture. Donations of dry or canned foods for the local food pantry will be appreciated.
After visiting with Santa, guests can visit the Children's Holiday Shoppe, open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday at Petranek's Pharmacy, which allows children to have independence in selecting gifts for family and friends. Parents make a list with their children and determine a budget, and once the children check in at the Shoppe with their list and budget, they will be assisted by helper elves from start to finish. The children's gifts will be wrapped and labeled. No adults will be allowed, and no peeking. Gifts range from $2 to $8.
Guests planning to attend Dickens of a Holiday can make reservations to attend a Victorian Tea, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, 125 W. Church St., Libertyville. For reservations, call the MainStreet office, at (847) 680-0336.
Ansel B. Cook Museum tours will also be available from noon to 4 p.m. both Saturdays.
The event is sponsored by Knauz Automotive Group, Libertyville Bank and Trust, George Garner Cyclery and First Bank and Trust. For more information visit www.mainstreetlibertyville.org, like MainStreet Libertyville on Facebook or call (847) 680-0336.
