Watch ice sculpting at event in Mundelein

As part of Mundelein's Santa's Cottage holiday festivities, the Mundelein Arts Commission invites residents to a holiday show of ice sculpting in the Village Hall Plaza Circle on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The sculpting will take place on the circle near Santa's Cottage, and will coincide with the cottage hours of noon to 3 p.m. Renowned ice sculptor Jim Bringas will hand-carve two 4-foot-high, 350-pound ice blocks.

Bringas, owner of Chicago Ice Works, brings 22 years of experience to his sculptures. Ice sculpting is usually taught in culinary schools, and Bringas' experience as executive sous chef with Hyatt Hotels gave him a strong background in the craft. He then apprenticed with Maurie Pearson, a top ice sculptor, before purchasing Chicago Ice Works.
