Downers North teacher on leave after claims of 'inappropriate behavior'

A Downers Grove North High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave after district officials became aware of claims of "inappropriate behavior."

Community High School District 99 Superintendent Hank Thiele sent a message to parents and district employees Tuesday informing them of a "sensitive situation."

"It was brought to our attention recently that conversations on social media pointed to potentially inappropriate behavior on the part of a current teacher at North High," Thiele wrote. "In response, we immediately began gathering facts surrounding the concerns, and placed the teacher on administrative leave."

Downers Grove police are in the early stages of an investigation into the district employee, Lt. David Bormann said. No charges have been filed and Bormann would not comment further.

Thiele did not disclose the nature of the allegations against the teacher.

"Please know that District 99 has long-standing policies and procedures to investigate any report that is brought forward to us; however, we are unable to comment publicly on any personnel matters," he wrote. "Our process is outlined in multiple board policies, and we investigate all complaints promptly and with complete confidentiality."
