Elmhurst cops hunting for two armed robbers

Elmhurst police are looking for two men suspected in the armed robbery Monday of a 19-year-old who responded to a Facebook post offering an iPhone 7 for sale.

The victim told police he met with the two suspects around 8:15 p.m. on the 100 block of E. North Avenue. One of the suspects displayed a handgun, police said, and took the victim's cash before fleeing east on North Avenue in a 2006 Chevrolet Astro van that was reported stolen from Hammond, Indiana.

Police said both suspects are black men in their late teens or early 20s, standing around 5 feet, 11 inches tall and wearing generic black hoodies.

Authorities are reminding residents that online transactions requiring a face-to-face meeting can be held in the lobby of the Elmhurst police station, which is open to the public and staffed 24 hours a day.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Elmhurst police at (630) 530-3050.
