Children will have chance to Shop With a Cop

The Arlington Heights Police Department and Target will be hosting the 12th annual Shop With a Cop program at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Arlington Heights Target Store, 1700 E. Rand Road.

Ten children from the Arlington Heights Community, ages 9-10 and their families, will have the store to themselves prior to the store opening for the day as they participate in the annual event.

The children will receive a Target gift card and the event will be carried out with the assistance from Target, Arlington Heights School District 25, students and staff from John Hersey High School and 15-20 Arlington Heights Police Officers.

While shopping for presents, the participating children will be paired up with an Arlington Heights Police Department officer and John Hersey High School student. Together, they will shop for gifts for the children's family.

Upon finishing their holiday shopping, students from Hersey will wrap the gifts for the children. The children and their families will be treated to a breakfast before and during the event. Parents will be treated to a special gift this year, courtesy of Target.

As a reminder, Arlington Heights Police officers will be in the Target parking lot at 1700 E. Rand Road from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, to accept donations for the Toys for Tots Drive-Thru Donation Event.
