Lake County releases results from underage alcohol operation

The Lake County Health Department and local law enforcement agencies sent teenagers to 165 stores across the county to see if they could illegally buy liquor. According to their results, released Monday, 12 stores violated the law, just 7.2 percent of the sample.

"Our desire is to see 100 percent compliance," said Terry Vandergrift, of the Lake County Underage Drinking and Drug Prevention Task Force. "But it is refreshing to see the majority of businesses realize the seriousness of this issue and did not sell alcohol to the underage participants."

According to the data, the village with the worst compliance was Lincolnshire, where teenagers were able to buy alcohol from 5 out of 20 stores checked.
