Wheeling, Elk Grove get wins
Wheeling girls basketball team raised its record to 4-0 at the Maine East Tournament on Monday night with a 34-33 triumph over Zion-Benton.
Coach Matt Weber's Wildcats, who shut out the ZeeBees 5-0 in the second quarter, were led by Morgan Collar (13 points), Nosa Igiehon (7), Nansy Velev (6), Sophia Stanke (5) and Chloe Drozdz (5).
Drozdz and Stanke each hit 3-pointers.
Elk Grove 33, Antioch 31: Elk Grove improved to 3-1 at the Vernon Hills tournament as freshman Isabella Tierney (12 points) and senior Zoe Blomquist (10 points) led the coach Jen Guth's offense.
Tierney and Blomquist each had a a pair of 3-pointers while sophomore guard Megan Murray had one.
