West Dundee firefighters to host 73rd annual Turkey Raffle Nov. 17-18

It's hard to imagine, but the West Dundee Fire Department held its first fundraising raffle in 1944 during the height of World War II.

Even though only $35.31 was raised for the department, it was the beginning of a long-lasting local tradition.

The West Dundee Firefighters Association is continuing this tradition, hosting the raffle on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18, at the Tri-City Evergreen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298, 117 S. First St. in West Dundee.

The raffle begins at 8 p.m. each night; doors open at 6 p.m.

More than 430 turkeys, ducks, Cornish hens, hams and bacon will be raffled off.

There also will be cash drawings at the end of the night. The popular turkey sandwiches will be served about 10 p.m.

Support two local traditions that have been supporting the community for decades - the West Dundee Firefighters Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298.
