Girls basketball: Tierney scores 16 for Elk Grove in loss to Vernon Hills

Led by Kayla Caudle's 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, Vernon Hills began play in its own girls basketball tournament with a 60-53 win over Elk Grove (0-1).

Leading the Grenadiers' offense were freshman Isabella Tierney (16 points), junior Rachel Kandefer (10), freshman Olivia Masnica (9) and senior Zoe Blomquist (8).
