Grocery Food Truck rolls into town for veterans

Midwest Veterans Closet is striving to take the lead in military hunger relief. A no charge Grocery Food Truck will roll up to Midwest Veterans Closet from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14.

A Grocery Food Truck is a truck loaded with meat; fresh produce; dairy products; frozen foods; and canned, boxed, and packaged items, enough for 150 families.

The food is available while supplies last at no charge; military or veteran ID required.

Midwest Veterans Closet officially opened its new Food and Nutrition Resource Center in September of this year, and has assisted more than 100 different families. They are working with Northern Illinois Food Bank to help provide healthy and nutritious food for veterans and their families. They also work with the University of Illinois Extension Program to provide nutrition education and can offer SNAP assistance to any military family that walks through their doors.

They have added pet food, donated and supported by Our House of Hope, for service related dogs and family pets as well.

As they celebrate their fourth year of serving veterans and their families, Midwest Veterans Closet staff, volunteers and donors reflected on how to do more, so, along with offering bags of groceries, warm coats and jackets will be available for women, men and children courtesy of many law enforcement agencies throughout the region.

Midwest Veterans Closet is at 2323 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, and on the Pace bus 569 route.
