Slovakian folk musician making 3-stop Naperville tour
Naperville's Sister Cities partnership with Nitra, Slovakia, is creating a musical exchange this week featuring an internationally known folk musician.
The fujara, a Slovakian overtone flute, and fujara player Bohuslav "Bob" Rychlik, are in town for performances that began Wednesday and continue through Friday - two at schools and one at the TEDxNaperville ideas conference.
Rychlik's first stop on his trip Wednesday was at Naperville North High School.
On Thursday morning, he's scheduled to play at Kennedy Junior High, and on Friday he's set to perform and speak as part of the eighth annual TEDx gathering at Yellow Box Community Christian Church.
Rychlik has performed at the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, last year's National Flute Association convention in California, McDaniel College in Maryland and at many folk music festivals in the U.S., the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
His visit was organized by Naperville's Sister Cities commission, which is preparing to celebrate 25 years of its relationship with Nitra.
The towns became "sisters" in 1993. Naperville also became Sister Cities with Patzcuaro, Mexico, in 2010.
