Lake County warrants team apprehends two fugitives

Two men with outstanding warrants were apprehended by members of the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal's Service, authorities said.

Juan A. Padilla, 24, of the 2000 block of Dugdale Road in North Chicago, was taken into custody Nov. 1 on a warrant charging unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, authorities said.

Authorities confronted Padilla after they learned he was inside a motel room near Green Bay Road and Washington Street in Waukegan.

Police were forced to make entry into the hotel room after Padilla refused to exit the room peacefully, authorities said. Padilla was found inside the room with marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and arrested without further incident.

He remains held in Lake County jail on $150,000 bail and next due in court on Nov. 7, authorities said.

Padilla's arrest came after a deputy assigned to a traffic safety detail in the area of Route 45 and Washington Street in Third Lake on Oct. 27 conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.

The deputy determined passenger, Edgar J. Chaveste, 27, of Anaheim, California, was wanted by the California Department of Corrections on a no-bond parole violation warrant.

He was arrested and taken to the Lake County jail, where he remains held without bail pending an extradition hearing. He is due in court Nov. 3.
