Elgin man pleads guilty to armed robbery

An Elgin man pleaded guilty to robbing a local business at knife point in September 2016 and is headed to prison.

Eugene R. Tasior, Jr., 57, agreed to a sentence of 20 years' imprisonment in exchange for a guilty plea to armed robbery, according to a news release by the Kane County state's attorney Thursday.

Tasior robbed a business in the 1-99 block of Clock Tower Plaza in Elgin on September 21 at around 1:30 p.m. Wearing a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses to conceal his face, Tasior brandished a butcher knife and demanded money. After the employees gave him cash from the register, Tasior fled. One of the employees recognized Tasior's voice because he was a regular customer and less than one hour later police confronted Tasior at his home.

According to the news release, Tasior had the butcher knife used in the robbery on him and more than $1,300 in cash. Tasior immediately confessed saying, "I'm guilty as hell."

Tasior had been paroled in September 2015 after being sentenced to 18 years in jail after an armed robbery conviction in Cook County in 2006.

Tasior is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He received credit for 407 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bail.
