Woodland Intermediate Presents Fall Performance on Nov. 9 and 10

Gurnee--Woodland Intermediate School's fourth and fifth grade students will proudly present the fall play, "The Wizard of Oz," on Thursday, November 9 and Friday, November 10 at the Intermediate School's multi-purpose room, 1115 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

"The Wizard of Oz," is based on the original novel written by L. Frank Baum. In this exciting tale of friendship, love, brains, and courage, you'll see many of your favorite Oz characters. Upon landing in a strange land, Dorothy, played by Ava Magliola, meets the Witch of the North, played by Kendall Wilson. She begins her journey along the yellow brick road and makes new friends in the Scarecrow, played by Addy Filipowicz, the Tin Woodman, played by Brady Christensen, and the Lion, played by Ella Barry. As the friends journey to meet the Great and Powerful Oz, played by Adi Pashupati, they encounter mysterious munchkins, enchanted poppies, frightening flying monkeys, and wise winkies.

When finally they meet the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Morgan Ghys, Dorothy defeats her with quick thinking and a bucket of water. With the help of Glinda the Good Witch played by Jaiden Lewis, Dorothy and her friends remind us that there is truly no place like home. The show is directed by April Cooksey and Pam Valkenaar, assisted by Brittany Klein, and student Director Ella Seal, along with an amazing student crew. The program is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts Inc.

Tickets cost $5 for adults and children 12 and younger are admitted for free.

A bake sale will be held during the intermission and all proceeds from the bake sale and the performance will benefit the Woodland Intermediate Drama Fund.
