Friday night takeaways

Stunner

Sixteenth-seeded Hinsdale South, the last of 256 teams to qualify for the postseason, scored perhaps the biggest upset on Friday night by winning at No. 1 Crete-Monee 28-20 in Class 6A.

Taking the fourth

Naperville Central topped West Aurora 35-14 in their Class 8A opener, but it wasn't easy. The Redhawks needed to make nine fourth-down stops to hold off the never-say-die Blackhawks.

Defense

IC Catholic Prep began defending its Class 3A title with a 55-6 victory over Watseka. Lazerick Eatman dominated for the Knights, rushing for 3 touchdowns and catching 2 touchdown passes.

Day two

Eight DuPage County football teams play on Saturday: Downers Grove North, Glenbard West, Hinsdale Central, Montini, Naperville North, Wheaton North and Willowbrook.
