McFun at St. Thomas of Villanova's McTeacher's Night

St. Thomas of Villanova Elementary School in Palatine held their first annual McTeacher's Night at the Arlington Heights McDonald's on Dundee Road on Wednesday, October 25th. A McTeacher's Night is organized to help raise money for local schools by having the teachers work at McDonald's and then giving a percentage of the night's sales to the local school.

On Wednesday the restaurant was taken over by teachers excited to serve freshly prepared meals to students and their families to raise money for St. Thomas of Villanova Elementary School. The students and families were excited to see their teachers and principal behind the counter and throughout the restaurant.

Sixteen Teachers and Family-School Association members worked from the elementary school including Principal Mary Brinkmann and Assistant Principal Stephanie Hardy. The McTeacher's jobs included greeting guests, cleaning the lobby, working the front counter, serving drinks, clearing tables, selling pies and even dressing up in a pie costume--all duties which were executed with great enthusiasm.

St. Thomas of Villanova FSA members Darcey Martino and Tomm Smithe had a blast dancing around the restaurant in a pie costume. They were encouraging the families to make a donation to receive a delicious hot apple pie.

One highlight of the evening is when the school received a tip in the tip jar St. Thomas of Villanova staff members Kathy McGarvey and Laura Klotz encouraged all the staff members to sing the McDonald's jingle. The tips kept pouring in all night long!

A special thank you goes to St. Thomas of Villanova Social Worker Lori Smithe who organized the event as well as everyone that worked and attended the event. St. Thomas of Villanova teachers worked hard and with excitement, while the families enjoyed a spectacular evening. The St. Thomas of Villanova Family-School Association plan to use the money raised to purchase document cameras for classrooms.

St. Thomas of Villanova School raised over $500.00 at the event thanks to all generous families who supported the event.
