Rolling Meadows aldermen approve land purchase for second firehouse

Rolling Meadows aldermen have given final approval to buying land at 2320 and 2350 Hicks Road for the second of two proposed fire stations.

Aldermen voted 5-2 in a second reading vote Tuesday to offer $800,000 to MAB LLC, also doing business as Platinum Home Mortgage Corp., for the property. As in the first reading vote Oct. 10, Aldermen Laura Majikes and Joe Gallo voted "no," but newly-seated Alderman Nick Budmats changed to a "yes" vote after initially saying he needed more information about the fire department's relocation plans.

The department plans to close Station 16 at 2455 S. Plum Grove Road and build a new station on Hicks, while the aging downtown Station 15 at 3111 Meadow Drive would be closed and a new one constructed at 3201 Algonquin Road. Before Budmats joined the council, aldermen voted 4-2 on Sept. 26 to pay $1.3 million for the Algonquin Road site.
