Libertyville station bids rejected

It's back to the drawing board and a big delay for a renovated Metra station in downtown Libertyville.

Trustees on Tuesday by a 6-0 vote rejected bids for the project after the lowest of seven received came in at $2.39 million, more than double the $1.1 construction estimate.

A highly detailed pedestrian walkway, number of ornate columns, slate roof, radiant in-floor heating system and exterior stamped concrete were among the reasons for the high bids, according to the village. The design will need to be significantly scaled back in order to remain within available budgeted funds, according to the village.
