Final chance for meal at Boloney's Sandwich Shop in Barrington

Fans of Boloney's Sandwich Shop - a beloved eatery next to downtown Barrington's Catlow Theater - will get their last chance for a meal there Saturday.

Tim O'Connor, who owns the Catlow and Boloney's, said the restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

O'Connor and his new wife, Laura, will convert the Main Street space into Showtime Eatery.

Showtime will feature appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, a few desserts and some best-selling holdovers from Boloney's menu. O'Connor said Showtime will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. when it debuts Tuesday, Oct. 17.

O'Connor said Showtime plans to serve beer and wine, but it won't have a liquor license when it opens. He said Showtime will seek a liquor license from the village and hopes one is secured in November.

He and his late fiancee, Roberta Rapata, started Boloney's on Oct. 1, 1981, and bought the Catlow in 1988. O'Connor ran the Catlow, and she operated Boloney's.

Rapata died at age 57 in 2016. O'Connor said the employees tried to keep Boloney's running out of respect for Rapata, but increasing competition in Barrington and rising operational expenses made it too difficult to continue as a sandwich shop.
